Elderberry cough drops

Elderberry cough drops

These are great if you are fighting a cold or have an obnoxious cough!! This recipe takes some time but it has a lot of benefits as well! My kids weren’t keen on the flavor since we aren’t huge on molasses here. Here is how to make them! Hope they help you out when you’re feeling down! This post contains affiliate links! Anything you buy from my link I make a small profit on!

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of elderberry syrup before adding the honey or maple syrup.
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cups molasses
  • Silicon candy mold if desired. The one I used is here. This is optional. You can use a casserole dish instead if you’d like and a serving utensil to cut them up!

Instructions:

  • Make the elderberry syrup. I cut down the recipe to 1/4 of the recipe so I didn’t have extra or you can take half a cup out when you make a fresh batch
  • Warm up the elderberry syrup, molasses and sugar to 300 F. If you have a thermometer grab it and set it in the pot. If you don’t that’s fine don’t worry! Set up a cup of cold water and place it next to your stove every so often drop a few drops into the cold water. If it hardens it’s ready to go!
  • Once it’s at the right temp either poor it into your mold or casserole dish. If it’s a casserole dish use a metal utensil and put lines in it so you can break them apart when they are cooled down. If you are using a mold fill the molds and set aside to cool.
  • Once cold break apart or remove from mold and store in a cool container for up to a month!
