I am a gravy-holic!!!! Everything is better with gravy on top of it! I am not a fan of all the gravy’s on the shelf! They have so many different ingredients and preservatives! There are tons of different ingredients many which you can’t name! The homemade kind just tastes a bunch better and you can adjust the recipe to suit your need! I make ahead the dry the ingredients then when its time to make the gravy i don’t have tp scramble and find it all! I grab my mason jar full of the dry ingredient, make a roux with butter and the dry ingredients, add milk or water and whisk til its nice and thick! That’s it!!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all purpose or home milled flour
- 1 cup dry milk powder
- 1/4 cup corn starch
- 1 tbsp ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp salt (I use Celtic)
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 6 tsp of poultry or beef seasoning (depends on what kind of gravy you want to make)
Whisk all the dry ingredients together and store in an airtight mason jar or jar of your choice! This is good for at least 6 months!
How to make the Gravy:
- Melt 2 tbsp of fat into a saucepan. Some fat options are: butter, shortening, sausage fat or bacon grease.
- Add 3 tbsp of the gravy mix you made
- Cook on medium to low heat for at least 3 minutes (making a roux)
- Pour in 1 cup of milk or water
- Whisk and cook until thickened
- You can add browned sausage to your gravy to make a sausage gravy if you want! This is optional but yummy and makes it heartier!
